Winter Warmth

This time of year is probably the start or the end of coat-wearing season, depending on where you are in the world.

For my fellow Australians, I hope I can help you with some winter-preparation. If you live somewhere else, hopefully this will give you some final tips for the end of the cold, if not you can use this for future reference!

First of all, practicality is key. Wearing a mesh jacket is not going to be practical in the dead of winter (I’ve never seen a mesh jacket but just go with it, okay?)

Essentially, what I mean is: look for the warmest, fluffiest thing before you think about how cute it is.

Of course, it’s going to have to meet in the middle. What’s the point of wearing the warmest jacket in the world if it’s ugly? My personal favourites are the basic I.AM.GIA jackets.

These can look so boring just because every 15 year old to walk the earth has one. However, with the right pattern and the right basic, it can be Pinterest-worthy.

Secondly, layering. Say hello to your best friend. It’s not a new thing to chuck a long-sleeve under a short-sleeve and transform you favourite summer outfit into your favourite winter one. But I am going to tell you that it’s a thin line between Sheldon Cooper and Gigi Hadid.

In my opinion, it doesn’t really matter what the long-sleeve is because you can’t really see it. For me, I always opt for a tight-fighting one so that the shape of the shirt isn’t altered.

It’s all about the short-sleeve, I like going for a basic with a little bit of interest. For example, a white t-shirt with a design on the front.

And my last tip for layering: there needs to be consistency. This goes for most outfits, but for layering, it’s crucial. If there’s black detailing on the short sleeve, wear a black long-sleeve. It needs to flow.

My last tip for winter is keep it interesting. I don’t know about everywhere else but here in Australia, when the clouds start darkening, so do the clothes. All of a sudden it’s all black everything and it gets depressing.

My advice to you is play with as much as possible, find a new way to style a summer piece or play with a few different necklines, to keep warm and up-to-date fashion-wise.

Congratulations to everyone in the Northern Hemisphere who have braved another Winter and to everyone else, well... good luck Charlie.
