Nothing makes a party better than the perfect party outfit, but knowing the dress code is So. Important.

I’ve accumulated a huge collection of party attire inspiration on my Pinterest (@wearingfash) but I’ve attached just a few that match certain themes, times of year and company to improve even the lamest of parties.

A bit of vintage inspo that encapsulates the ideal winter party outfit.

First of all, being stylish is great, but so is preventing pneumonia; so in the winter, Layer. Up.

And don’t be afraid of a pair of stockings, even the very sheerest pair can stop you from shivering the entire night.

A classic black dress of almost any shape will always fit a winter dress code, but breaking the boundaries can change the mood of a dreary day in winter.

If you’re willing, princess blue and jester red are on trend and interesting but classy, the perfect ingredients to add some life to a winter party.

For summer, I beg of you: just leave the jacket at home - it’s all well and good until someone gets heatstroke.

I like to stick to peach or pale pinks, maybe even some baby blues in the summer, but whatever suits your skin tone and shows off your summer tan (or for some, reduces the focus on your sunburn), is definitely the way to go.

Of course, practicality is crucial to any outfit, it allows your confidence to match whatever statement you’re making.

My advice is to stick to the lightest thing in your wardrobe for summer parties, sweat patches are not a good look and you don’t want to be worrying all night that they will suddenly appear. Stick to the lights.

It’s often said that all that glitters is gold, but when it’s a casual get-together, it’s just kind of awkward.

There is a time and a place for sequins and going all out, wait for those moments to look your very best, and look beautiful the rest of the time by slightly pushing the boundaries but keeping your feet on the ground (especially for chilled out gatherings).

At a friend's birthday gathering, maybe keeping your outfit a little on the low-key side of things is a good idea, the birthday person always likes the spotlight.

For family reunions or when around more conservative company, it’s probably best to keep the skirt length pretty modest. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate some rule-breaking, and I love a miniskirt, but maybe leave it at home when the creepy family friend is expected.

Because it’s almost holidays for most parts of the world, it’s party time. These tips will hopefully save you from some major fashion missteps and will allow for a great time!
