the beauty of basics

I’m a firm believer in basics. In my humble opinion, a wardrobe has very little value without them.
The most exciting, beautiful outfits are built on basic pieces.
Of course, I could bore you with how important a white t-shirt is, but that’s common knowledge.
I have complied a list of the most key components of the ideal wardrobe.
Firstly, jeans. If you have the time and the money, my advice is to just go on a spree and pick which ones you like the most. However, some of us don’t live lives of the upmost luxury, so alternative measures must be taken to find the jeans. In my own collection, I have accumulated one pair of ripped boyfriend jeans from H&M (which have slowly become more ripped with each outing), one pair of slim fitting, stretchy cropped jeans, two straight cut Calvins, one black and one dark blue that I like to cuff to achieve the not-a-cowboy look. Though, I’m still searching for my perfect white jeans, I’ve discovered that the only method for finding the perfect jeans is trial and error because you can’t be sure which pair is going to be the pair.

However, one piece of advice that I can give you: the pockets say it all. If one brand knows the balance between big and little illusions for the backside pockets, it has to be Levi’s.
Rely on the brands that are known to have good jeans, usually they are popular for a reason.
The perfect singlet is hard to find, depending on your bust size and what shape works best for you, there’s a lot to consider when browsing for this piece.
Singlets are perfect to dress up or down in the summer and layer in the winter, they are seriously underrated.
Luckily, tops that aren’t made from a lot of fabrics don’t tend to be too expensive. This allows for a whole lot of trial and error.
An array of colours is key, of course you need the base colours: white, black and maybe grey. But never underestimate the power of a colourful basic like this. Right now, intense pinks are everywhere and over the course of this season, soft greens are lavenders will be all anyone talks about so having an easy item to pair with your favourite pair of jeans is an easy way to look fashionable but understated.
And finally, the fun piece, everybody needs one. Although mine isn’t too adventurous (a corduroy jacket isn’t exactly groundbreaking), I think an investment piece that is expressive of you is so valuable in anyone’s wardrobe.
I think we can all agree that wearing something that makes you look damn good, makes you feel so much better. So reconsider that thing that you’ve decided against because you don’t want them to stare.
And remember, there’s no shame in being basic!
